Welcome to HBGames, a leading amateur game development forum and Discord server. All are welcome, and amongst our ranks you will find experts in their field from all aspects of video game design and development.

A Superlative Greeting to You All.

Hey there. I'm GrooveMan.exe; no one particularly special, but I've sprited as a hobby for around 3 years, and been an amateur writer for roughly a year.

I've turned up here to learn some more about RPG Maker XP. After mulling on (a pretty interesting if I may say so) game idea, I decided on using RMXP to turn it into something real, with it offering more options than RM2k3, and is more intuitive towards RPG coding than Game Maker.

However, despite some coding knowledge, I'm a little lost as to where to start. There's just so many possibilities, and ways to execute them! Therefore, I intend to lurk here, picking up new ideas and concepts that I can use. I won't bore you with the game synopsis at the present (I remember seeing ruling criteria here that posted projects must be at a screenshot stage; which I honestly can't offer at this point), although this may change in the (not so) near future.

I look forward to getting to know you all, even if I don't say much. =D

I had better learn, huh?

Browsing the tutorials yesterday, i learned to colour text... I sounds really obvious; now I think of it.

On the flip side, all the tutorials I've seen that deal with ruby and similar scripting, are all a little too heavy; or aren't very well commented. Ah well, I'll just keep looking - I know I'll find something useful.

Finally, another BN fan. I thought we were an endangered breed, comrade.

Good luck working on your story ideas. Lord knows I've been thinking about mine for a while now, and things didn't start to take any workable shape until last month. Storywork has to be the hardest part of making a game -- because if it gets any harder than this, I quit. :x

So you've got scripting aspirations  I'm actually surprised with the number of people here who are starting to learn Ruby and submitting their own scripts -- maybe if I ever have the chutzpah, I'll try too. We've got a lot of very well-seasoned scripters around here who are really active, so you shouldn't have too hard a time finding help with whatever's strangling you.

So, yeah, welcome to the forums. Good luck, and watch out for chimeras!

(I hear they're everywhere.)

Oh, also, be sure to pop onto the site's IRC channel, #rmxp at irc.slacked.org. You could use an IRC client, or if you're the lazy sort you can just hit "Chat Now" on the toolbar up there to go to the Java Chat.

Or did you know that already? :x

Well, scripting isn't my main priority (I enjoy writing far, far more), but I've learned that projects don't get finished if you ignore aspects completely and try do dump them on other people. So I'm going to try and learn enough to do parts by myself. If it turns out I can't, then at least I know I tried, and whoever might help me would have something to work from.

I've never really used irc, I'll check it out sometime. As for Battle Network... <3

Welcome GrooveMan! I must say, you sound like a solid member. I'm interested in seeing what sort of game you'll produce.

Oh God. Not another MMBN fan. If that other one we have is any indication, then you will be just dreadful.

All jokes aside, welcome to rmxp.org, Grooveman. Have fun.  :thumb:
