A Note on Etiquette: Edits (READ ME)

If you're trying to help someone with their pixel art, it's generally acceptable to do an edit of their work as part of your critique to show them the proper way to do something. I myself find it's generally easier to explain something with a visual aid. However, when someone does an edit of your work, unless they specifically say it's okay, don't directly use whatever they made; try to recreate it on your own instead. If you just start working with whatever they did, you won't learn, and you generally want your art to be entirely your own in any case. This is also true in other pixeling communities like Pixelation and Pixel Joint, so keep it in mind if you wander outside .org.

I've noticed a couple people doing this lately, ergo this announcement. Thanks, and happy pixeling!

I was wondering if you did or did not give me permisssion to use it, and if I broke te rule, I'm pretty confused about that now... When you say "don't use what they directly made" does that mean like for battler samples or just the 1st frame of a sprite. I really think your helping a lot of people with your edits so I support you and will trash the sprite and start anew with it if it breaks this rule.

Thank you and have a nice day...

Well, it's not a RULE exactly, just a clarification of intent. I didn't really mean to chide you guys; I know you probably don't know, which isn't your fault, and I haven't always been clear. Like in your case, I didn't specify, so I don't blame you for being confused. By this point, since you've done an entire sheet, go ahead and keep it; I don't want you throwing your work away, and it's really not that big a deal in any case. The idea is just that in general, you learn more from doing things yourself than from using something someone else made. And my goal in doing edits and leaving critiques is to teach, not do things for you.

Honestly, the confusion is really my fault for not being clearer, but oh well, I'll make sure to specify in the future.

Oh, well it's alright that your weren't specific, but it's even better to correct it, I'm really glad that I wasn't the one who set you off, and I just said rule because I couldn't find another name for it  , so bow I'm pretty glad that I don't have to re-do the sprite, but I was still willing too anyway. It's probably not going to be the final one so it's not coming directly off of the example...

Thank you and have a nice day!
