A Music Maker for someone new to the subject?

Google has failed me, and searching the forums has confused me, so I ask for a favor.


Does anyone know where I can find a semi-decent music maker (midi makers are fine.) which is free, easy to learn and a good program to learn the ropes with?


Edit:Added one more criteria that the program has to fit. Since I'm low on cash atm, and I don't even know if I wanna pursue music.

I've heard FL studio (Fruity Loops) is a good one. I keep meaning to download it myself but i'm lazy so I shoudl get round to it in the next year or so :D
