A CHALLENGER APPROACHES

... Are you SERIOUS?! :O
*immediately goes to Google*

He really is! He says he's running for both parties - whoever nominates him first. :]

I'm sure it's just an elaborate hoax but I'd vote for him :'P

(because I like throwing votes away ...... Who'm I kidding. I probably won't register.)

Please, 2008 cannot come fast enough. Bush won't affect me directly, but his haters and greenday lovers are really starting to bug me by making everything about him.

YES. THANK YOU.

Bush DOES affect me, but God I swear I couldn't care less if he's out, I'm just looking forward to hearing a newscast by a liberal where they don't mention how he's f'ing up the country, or by a conservative trying to say liberals are idiots for hating him.

>_<;;;

Oh and by the way: Colbert is only running in South Carolina, his home state. It's a swing state, and he says that he's "swinging" both ways (rep AND demo)--it'll be interesting to see how he affects their numbers.

If he won, somehow, it would be a strange mixture of ecstaticness ('cause that's just... weirdly awesome in an odd sort of way) and disappointment that nobody would take the US seriously anymore if the commander in chief is a comedian. Well, I don't know that for sure, but that seems like the sort of response one might expect.

LOL anyways....

No, probably not. He has good ratings, but it's a second-tier show on a cable network and he's only campaigning in one state, without presenting strong platforms.

It's hilarious, and awesome, yes, but will he win? Would he even get 10% of the popular vote? Not a chance. Just because a good majority of people on this board know who he is, that's not a good demographic statistic on all of the U.S., many of which don't even have cable.

What's important is that he'd take a percentage (even just a small one) away from a party in the biggest swing state in the country after Ohio, and that could affect the polls in interesting ways.

Then again, consider that a lot of the people who watch his show are probably the kind of people who wouldn't otherwise vote. Maybe South Carolina's percentage of voters will skyrocket because of people who think it's funny to vote for him.

Not necessarily. Colbert's main audience is rather young (18-30). Most young people don't vote. Just a statistic.

Hell, I don't, and I like to think I'm fairly educated on government. It's mostly due to laziness. I also disagree with some key points in the Electoral College.

I might vote anyway next year, though. It's boring as hell and for some reason I seem to get more junk mail than usual after registering, but I guess it is important ... :'/
