8-bit audio question....?

Currently, i'm working on games that utilize an 8/16-bit tiles, and I need music for it. Since I want my game to be original (as the tiles are a replacement), I want original music for it. And I need the music to be 8-bit.

So, can anyone recommend any programs that can produce 8-bit audio, free or not? Google is not helping.

Well, I recommend you programs that use the Microsoft adpcm codec.
And 8 bits music? well, do you mean 8 Khz? or 8 bits? since there's a big difference. par exemple, you can use sounds of 8khz, and 2-4 bits, which is actually used for cell phone games. Now, what you have to understand here is that less Khz = less high frequencies, (It's gonna sound like it,s inside a box).
I hope this can help you, also, just google for it, I think you can find many of them with free trials.

Well, i'm not too smart in terms of music, but I mean music similiar to those of the Game Boy Color. I'll still have to check it out though.

Well, you could try using the kinds of sound you would typically find in "8-bit" games like a square and triangle waveform and noise type sound (like the "drums" in NES games), and then run them through a filter to get the desired sound. Or search for a soundfont or .dls or something similar that has those types of sounds. Or, just use original NES/GB music.

That's true Urza, although using MIDI could be a higher quality in sound choice, also would use less space.
using waveforms can become tricky, you know? oscillators, envelopes, filters, etc. Just to make one sound you require some experience with that.
Although MIDI would require a bit of experience and a controller preferred.
Arc maybe you should ask people for sounds. I think I got some I made, although I did them very basic using or waveforms or midi. I 'll try to post it today. Concerning the music if you need (and if I have time) I could convert them.
