60.25's WIP resources

Update: March 14th 2007 - "slime monster" in "Build It! Contest" spoiler below, or on page 3, post 29 (FOUND HERE), enjoy.

Unless any resources has "This sprite free for use" (minus the quotes) it is not for use by anyone else other than myself, or those I give permission to... though go ahead and steal it if you want, what can I do seriously?
I just ask that you don't is all.

Oh, and if I accidentally put anything other than "sprite", or add something that isn't exactly a sprite, but say it's free - it's free...

Let's reorganize shall we?

Right first:
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/sixtyandaquarter/dwayne.png[/IMG]
This is the first sprite I've done, completely. It was intended to be a character named Dwayne in a possible future project. However he looks very unlike the Dwayne in my sketches, not as old and flabby looking.
This sprite free for use
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/ ... aine-1.png[/IMG]http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/sixtyandaquarter/octaine4.png[/IMG]
This is Octaine, oddly named and oddly spelled. First is the main look, and the 2nd is from a cutscene with a teddy bear. The cutscene isn't planed to have Octaine face any other direction, so I didn't see the need to do 4 directions.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/ ... taine2.png[/IMG]http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/sixtyandaquarter/octaine3.png[/IMG]
And Octaine in one section of the story, where he's required to wear a tux. One, if you look, has a blue tie.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/ ... arrior.png[/IMG]
This is an unnamed warrior, slightly based off of the RTP warrior04 or 05, one of those. I'm not sure if I did a good job with the giant shoulder pads, and such...
This sprite free for us

Octaine sprites are not for use

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/sixtyandaquarter/display.jpg[/IMG] http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/ ... splay2.jpg[/IMG]
These two images started this thread really and made me turn this into a "hey look, I got some guys" into a -ahem- "workshop". If you look you can see the 2 complete sprites in there as well!

Not for use since this is for a contest, when the contest is over and if they are not excepted (likely) they can be used as you'd like with credit
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/ ... player.png[/IMG]
My main sprite going into the Build It!, other than a few templates I tried to do (that Erk and Tana can do better :yes:), I nicked him "the slacker"... oohh spiffy...

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/ ... nprog2.png[/IMG]
Ahh scarey slime monster!
He's scarey for me because I can't get him to work well, he simply refuses to be animated correctly and is just a pain in the neck to try to do anything with... he's like an akward ex-girlfriend you just had to try to be friends with afterwards, for some unknown reason... you didn't want to mind you, but you were forced to... that's this guy...

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/ ... gdeath.png[/IMG]
The first attempt in this build it! contest, "stalking death". I touched up on him alot, but dont' have anythign to show other than a reshaded and colored version of this... so why waste space until I have more animations and frames to show for it...?

Wow... windowskin... not that great, but hey.

If used, I know the semi transparent selector box will show up green, it was a mistake but I like it that way, actually.
That spoiler above contains what it looks like in my project. With the selector being slightly greenish. As you can see, with the default menu, it can appear a little strange...

Enjoy, leave comments, and I hope you like what you see.
See something that can be done in a better light, than by all means let me know.

Thanks.

@Oburi and ~R~,
Thanks for the nice words.

@Jstreet,
Damn I knew I forgot to credit someone heh.
Yeah, you're skin tones are in there. The only skin tone I changed was for Inara (in red, third row near the middle, has a viel on one sprite, and bare faced in other), and the 2 "monks" above her, and the 2 to the right.

And let me know, J, if you post yours. I didn't see alot of Vex since I've been here (though I never actively looked), and it would be nice to see what other people are doing with them.

@Tana,
Thanks for pointing out my mistake, just fixed it. And none of the 3 hairs I stole were VEX style, they were RTP style and Sora's ripped from the GBA Kingdom Hearts. I edited and resized them. I just wish I could make some of the half kaisers I've seen, mold into VEX, but I'm not that good yet.

@No one in particular
The first 3 (top row) are fully completed, in 4 directions of course (and the knight with the red cape and helm w/the visor up), as are the monkish characters (the one's in the block next to the "knight" or "soldier" looking guys, just barely above my avatar - they all are wearing the same thing but recoloured with the "V" shap on the torso) are all done as well (not the "female monk/Juno" who is next to them).

I'm also trying to work on a diagonal version, to have 8 directions, but since I'm best at editing it's got a longs way to complete. But I plan on uploading it for feedback some time soon (maybe tomorrow) to see what I need to fix as far as pose, mechanics, and dimensions, before going in and fully shading it and making it as asthetic as it should be.

They're all pretty good. I really like the design on a a lot of them. But some of them have really flat hair compared to some of the others. Like on some of the girl's you follow very close to the template but when then you have some with really full and fluffy. I'd keep to one style. They both look really nice but for me it's gotta be one or the other or else if they are side by side it's like "woe! Hair!" Ya know? But other than that... there's a lot here. How long did they take? Hmm the Vex is lookin like a pretty snazzy template... I might play around with them a bit. :D

@Raven the Dark Angel
I know what you mean about the hair. As I was working with them I guess I got more confidence to try new things - including frankenspriting some hair from other character sets. I've been touching them up bit by bit every so often, but I'm not good with hair.

It took me 3 hours, about - including a few smoke breaks, and a break to walk to the deli and back to get breakfast. I started at 5 am and ended about 8 something (before 8:30) am. Since a huge batch of them are just copies of another sprite with some minor editing most of the time was wasted playing around and having fun with colors.

The one that went the quickest was "Red Sky", who is just above the frog (my avatar). He's the semi native american looking guy just above the "ar" in "sixtyandaquarter" written there. The only trouble I had with him was getting color for the minute clothing. I still think the "mohawk" looks more like a spike on his head, but hopefully it'll be easier to distinguish with a 4 directional stepping sprite and not just a front view.

The one that took me the longest, and was hardest, was the knight (to be exact it was the knight with the visor down - whose chin is still showing.) I had done the basic knight body, and added a helm with the visor up. I liked the way I did it and intended to add the visor down, but had a hard time trying to make the two match. To make it look as if it was the same helmet, I could for example interchange the two sprites. Have a character speak, for example, and have to lift the visor to be heard normally - or to whisper.

The rest were much easier, specially the "lancer" character (blonde in brown clothing and armor next to the big frog avatar), since I had already known what to do - though making her look like her eye was injured and bleeding was annoying. I had a hard time making it look like blood, and be visible, without over doing it.

And if anyone is interrested, the difference between the "knights" and the "soldiers" is the knights are meant to be wearing chainmail and have platemail, whereas soldiers have blue clothing and leather armor instead.

Hey, just updating the thread.
The following is just copied and pasted, practically, from the updated first thread...

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/sixtyandaquarter/display2.jpg[/IMG]

And here are the sprites I have uploaded that are finished:

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/ ... dwayne.png[/IMG]
This is Dwayne from a possible future project, in his "farmers" attire. I think the hair needs to be altered on the side views.

Please, if you like any material, feel free to use/edit but please give credit.
Some hairs taken from Ccoa's Tifa and Sora GBA rip. Most skin tones from the_Jstreet.

Any Cn'C, then please, share. I'd really appreciate knowing what to do to become better in this field.

Thanks.

Eeee! I'm so happy to see someone working heavily with VEX sprites! Are you allowing any of your sprites to be used, by any chance?

EDIT: Disregard my question; I saw it was already answered. ^^

@Jaide, go right ahead.
Check back too, because I saw you're request just recently in the request forum, and I might have more VEX styled sprites that you may want to use. Some will have a look of the 1920's -50's.

And also, updated main post. If you wish tos ee what it holds without rescrolling up, well here ya go:
And here are the sprites I have uploaded that are finished:

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/sixtyandaquarter/promo.png[/IMG]
A foolish stupid idea of a promo poster because I got bored. The background is edited from a Pac Man game I believe... not from an actual tileset, but I think I might use the background as a general idea of a look if I do make custom tilesets.

And ofcourse if you have any CnC then please, go right ahead and let me know. Also if you wish to use any of these, go right ahead as well.

Ack! thanks for pointing that out Mea!

I uploaded the wrong image... gonna have to fix that now... damn heh.

EDIT: There fixed, hopefully I won't be making that mistake again heh

God I've been away from my computer too long I haven't had time to update any of the sprites to full character sets or finish the ones I'm working on...

but I did find this, an attempt from awhile ago (someone might remember seeing it on the forums) at a tileset in progress.

Originally intended as an "isometric view" and later when I figured out how to cleanly make it appear as if a map was rotating I edited up a bit. I should finish this. I don't remember if the "textures" are from an RTP or from someone else, I had it written down somewhere... If anyone knows lemme know and I'll credit.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/ ... apidea.png[/IMG]

Now to go and edit the first post to show this as well.

EDIT: I uploaded the wrong picture... this was the first attempt, I meant to upload the 4th attempt... oh well I can't find it apparently so I'll just leave this here and when I get a chance I'll upload the newest one...

A modern day slacker type. STill in the works on this direction of animation, before I move on I plan on adding some more detail. Then the other directions and finally 2 or 3 poses (depending on how complicated they become)

I also did a bunch of templates for the contest, here are a large bundle of them (in one spoiler):

Any suggestions/critic points, please, lemme know.

The design and shape of the sprite is great, and you've shaded face very well, but like I've noticed in some of your other sprites, you've not shaded the clothing all that much, try to use more colours when shading, you have some good depth where your shading has been placed, just try to enhance that.

Hydrolic: they're meant to be celshaded, read-up on the Build It! Contest.

60: the robe should have more contrast between the middle and shadow values.

@Hydrolic,
As Tana said these last two are meant to be in the Build It! style, but I see what you mean about the other sprites. I'll keep the shading in mind when I return to more comfortable templates (these lineart temps for the contest are alien too me), thanks for the comments!

@Tana,
I have a bad eye for coloring my own, thanks for pointing that out. The version I'm touching up every so often now has a better shading job but the contrast is the exact same, I'll play around and fix that. Thanks for the comments!
