4Story - The WoW Clone

I have heard a lot of hype and rant about 4Story over ads and bulletins across the net.

Currently almost every review just says about how similar the layout is similar to WoW, but very little about actual gameplay.

I was wondering where or not this is worth D/L. I mean it is free, but is it worth the time? I mean I already have WoW (don't really play at all anymore, just randomly on private servs) so if it IS a WoW clone I really could care less about it. But any opinions?

i was not impressed.

it's 100% not innovate. I dare to venture that WoW -ACTUALY- has more interesting player classes. And i really think wow is a snooze cruise.

it's prettier than WoW though.

Ok I got in and I am actually... *closes eyes and gets ready for beatings* ... it's actually not half bad.

I mean I played wow (70 Resto Shaman with decent gear) but it DOES get boring after awhile and eventually I just couldn't bring myself to play it anymore.

But this game... wow, I mean it doesn't have that same addiction feeling (which is good) but IS actually really fun to play.

For the first 5 hours (around level 7-ish) I give this game an 8/10. Maybe you guys could give it a wing and tell me what you think?


Also, on a Ubuntu side, would it be possible to play it on Ubuntu with wine? Like to open the game from my windows port (host folder) and then open it with wine? (How do I do that again?)

Not necessarily true. I know people who play WoW and that sort of thing purely for recreation, without getting eaten by the program. In both cases, they're very well-liked around the school, and don't act as if they have anything to escape from.

However, I know (and have been trying to un-know for some time) a guy who, as soon as he gets home from school, creates a new private server for himself, spawns the best weapons, and levels to 70 after one or two monsters -- or so the story goes.

Whether or not that last one's true, there are different sorts of people with different reasons for playing. Personally I don't touch the stuff since I'm horrible at time management, but if I could get into one without being eaten whole, I'd do it just for entertainment value.

You know, this game had potential. For 15 minutes.

Of course, there's the crappy translation, but that didn't stop me from playing iRO for 3 years. Forgivable. I forsaw that it could be an issue to figure out what the hell they wanted from me, but I soldiered on, enjoying the fact that the minimap told me where to go. The graphics were decent. Most remarkably, actually, was the armor design - I actually liked it! It was like a mix between WoW and FFXII. Neat.

But then something happened. Combat.

I killed 6 monsters, and then resolved to never play again. Combat lacks any sort of umph - I require umph. Skills were unresponsive, animations looked stupid, and at no point did it do an even half decent job of depicting my toon beating down the monster.

Uninstalled, case closed, stupid game.

Such a waste too - it's rare that you find a game with a decent jump animation.

Hmm... I'm playing a summoner and rather like the battle system, more so then WoW.

Also this IS pre-open beta, which is like a closed beta to anyone, (oxymoron?) This is their way of getting some feedback, and soon will be the the Open Beta.

There still IS room for improvement which needs to be looked at... but guys, this is a FREE game. I mean you don't have to do anything but install.

I think it is fun to play in my spare time, I mean I have a social life and I usually only play at night instead of browsing facebook and .Org for 2 hours (without actually posting or anything.)

Not horribly bad, but not great either.  But for a beta, not bad.

Fiesta, Dungeon Runners, Sword of the New World, RF Online, Dream of Mirror Online (Well, maybe not RF Online, but, you know), plus a few more I can't think of right now.

Also, typically with these free games, very little of substance changes between beta and full release. Hell, half the time the game has already been out for several years in another country.

I saw a few of those and they all seem to be ok, but I still think that 4Story competes. I mean, It has dungeons, group collaboration, Interesting PvP, Guilds, the works, and it is put together rather nicely.

It's like... some kind of pathetic WoW/FFXI bastard child that was put up for adoption and forgotten for several years before showing up randomly and demanding payment from it's estranged parents, sickened at the thought that their mistake: the coalescence of liquor, methamphetamines and raucous juvenile sexual experimentation. "The Bastard", never spoken but echoed in the recesses of their minds like a specter, would surely fade away into the night. An unwanted abandoned dumpster flipper-child.

Am I the only one who demands a visceral quality to the combat in an MMO?

I'm certain you are not alone in this. I too, require this, Guild Wars was satisfactory for the combat system it had, the monsters actually used skills! They don't just stand there and attack you. I also require a game with non WoW graphics, something that runs from cartoon like hell.

From what i saw of 4Story, the graphics look good, butthat's about it. If you want to wait for a decent free MMO, wait for Mabinogi Heroes.

I've actually been enjoying Atlantica. If you can weasel your way into the closed beta, I recommend it.

The level curve gets kinda nasty at 10, but it's worth the grinding because it fuels the enchanting and crafting system.

There is ALWAYS something to do.

Also, it's a turn based MMORPG, with a battle system that would be interesting in a single player RPG. That's kinda cool, if you're into that sort of thing.
