25 New Blood Autotiles (PA)

Hi! A while ago I made a blood autotile for the evil-castle tileset. Since some people apparently like it - I have made some blood autotiles for nearly every RTP floor tile.

Okay, while they do look kinda nice and stuff (except for the color, since blood has a much darker red... RGB 128-0-0 usually works), but making a bunch of autotiles seems kind of ineffective to me... you could've made a single Alpha-channelled PNG to apply the blood onto every other tile by using a map layer...

I think that might have resulted in a pale blood that wouldn't look very good at all. Since map layers don't have transfer modes, then I don't believe that would of worked out too well. But, I've never tried it, so who knows?

Otherwise, thanks.

Well, the good thing about having the textures under is that it keeps it to one layer. A transparent version would have to be put on the second layer unless merged with the texture being used under it.

But a transparent version would still be a good idea because (1) people can add their own original textures under it, and (2) they can more easily overlap the blood onto different textures that are next to each other (like on patches dirt in grass).

I've used alpha-channeled water tiles before, so I don't see why a transparent blood one wouldn't work. You just might have to make a couple versions with varying transparency so that they're more flexible on different floors.

I use alpha channels for water too, it has always looked fine for me as well.

It's good that you are taking your time to make resources but blood spills are not uniform enough to work with an autotile in my opinion. It works better just to add blood splatter variations to a tileset with an alpha transparency in them

I agree fully with Calibre. Great job though, on the actual tiles! I couldn't make tiles if my life depended on it...

Hmm ... I agree that an alpha channel should have been used instead.

But blood is really more the consistency of pudding than water. The blood here is much too clear. It should be nearly opaque. A darker, browner version would be cool for blood that's dried a little more. That would be entirely opaque, however.

many people that come on here, bluescope, dont have the programs or the knowledge to actually do this. thats why they come onto the resource frum. Although you make a valid point, you also cut the inexperienced and program lacking users

Well, I actually have the knowledge and experience to do what he suggested - but that would have obscured the texture below the blood. So, pre-comping the blood on top of the tiles produced what, I thought, looked best.

this is getting off topic, and i appologize, but i wasn't directig it tward you.. i am talking more about the people that dont really post much up, but use it because they are inexperienced.. i dont know you or what you do... but yeah

Nexs, if there was no constructive criticism in the world then nothing would improve. I'm sure if Meticlan didn't know how to do something (although he does) he could have told Bluescope himself. What does cut the user mean exactly anyway?

sorry i meant.. cut them out of his statement.. like he seemed to have ignored the fact that there ARE people out there that can't do it
