21st birthdays...

ok, last night was my 21st birthday, and my best friend, nick, took me to the local bar. i ended up getting so drunk i threw up in the ladies room... that's right the ladies room. it took 15 shots to get me there, and i stil ain't got a hang over...

my big debate issue is this. How much is TOO much? should there be a limit on the number of drinks you can have on your 21st, or should your buddies be allowed to get you so drunk you can't piss straight?

ps, i have pictures of me chucking in the ladies room... my buddy took it, of course...

Umm... Well...

My personal opinion is that, so long as yer buds are there to make sure you're alright then it shouldn't matter but... I doubt there's a rule that could be made that would keep everybody safe.

I'd say take a sobriety test. When you fail completely, you can put the bottle down.

A person is ultimately responsible for themselves. The bar isn't responsible for you, your friends aren't responsible for you, the government isn't responsible for you.

If you can't enforce a limit on yourself, I don't particularly feel bad for whatever happens to you. No offense, but if you drink yourself sick, you don't really have anyone to blame but yourself. When your buddies hand you a shot and you don't want any more, send it back.

Ah drinking and partying. I probably shouldn't be talking about this, but hey ho. I agree with ccoas opinion on this, as you yourself are always responsible for your actions. Unfortunatly drink can alter your perspectives, which is why its always good to have friends to stop or help you, preferably friends who aren't drinking.

But also the bar you are drinking in, (especially in england) do tend to watch out for you, and will stop serving you if you get violent, keep falling over or are sick in anywhere but the bog.

I, within reason, can tell when I've had too much, but this often then not comes from experiance. Just remember alcohol is addictive, so start off slow, as this gives your body the chance to build up resistance too the liquid goodness and therefore drink your kids under the table as a lesson in drinking when you're older.

Well, in Oregon it's illegal to serve alcohol to someone who's visibly intoxicated.

Personally, I've never been drunk and don't plan on ever getting there. I prefer to keep my wits about me.

i say when its there 21 Bday(18 in canada) let them drink as much as they want. only stop them once its way to much like enough that will kill you.

@Alistor: Its not hard not to have a hang over. just drink lots of water

I drank myself sick last night, threw up for an hour in a toilet, (note to self, there's a reason you don't drink neat vodka shots). I get into these bizzare cycles where I get really ill; then become incredibly sensible, so sensible, in fact, that I never really get very drunk; then slowly work back up to drinking lots; then get really ill, and go back to the beggining.

On these kind of "I'm going to drink as much as I can, because I can", you just have to try and work it out so that you manage to have as much fun as you can before you engage in total missery, and hope it at least balences out. If you really go for it, you might manage to throw up once and recover fairly fast. If you fail, then you just have to suffer it out.

Anyway, what's so special about 21? I'm thinking about what I'm going to do for my 18th, with my first legally bought drink :)

woah, aren't you allowed to drink alcohol before 21?

In switzerland you can drink beers and wines at 16 and everything else at 18.

Anyway, I think that it's perfectly normal that the first time you're allowed to drink you're going to abuse with it. I'm not saying that it's a good thing but I think that it happens to almost everyone.
And your friend are likely not going to stop you...

I say let people make their own mistakes. Most reasonable people only get incredibly drunk once.

Also, it's 19 in the majority of Canada, 18 in some of it. It varies by Province.

To be honest, I ignore those rules. I say if you're old enough to die for your country (18 in both Canada and America) you're old enough to drink. I know someone currently serving a huge punishment for under age drinking with his officers in the military.

Define reasonable?

My brother just got funded £30 odd thousand or something ridiculous to gain his PHD in European Politics and he gets drunk more than anyone else I know!

Alcohol is fine if you know how to drink it.

in Australia, the legal drinking age is 18. generally, coz we're a pretty laid back country so to speak, we go out to pubs and clubs and whatnot and get absolutely blind... i, myself don't really drink so much, only socially. but on you're first big night, there shouldn't be a limit so long as you are having a good time. we all know that drinking too much kills brain cells, so if you don't get blind all the time, you won't end up as dumb as a post...

In England it's 18, my 18th was last week and the only thing I did differantly was that I drove to college rather than use the bus. The first couple of times me and my friends were drinking one of my friends ended up in hospital both times (it later turned out she was alergic to alchohal) and I must say it put me off excessive drinking, the most I've ever been is slightly tipsy.

oh, i've been drunk...lol and my friends were so nice that they shaved half of my eyebrow :P but it was all in good fun... good times all round :P

My father has been drunk more in a month than I have been in my entire life... And I'm 32, not necessarily a 'youngun'... :P

Drink with responsibility.... even if that responsibility is to have someone there you can trust to drive you home and make sure you don't manage to kill yourself off.

Is there a 'too much'? Yes, that's usually about the time you're throwing up in the women's bathroom. ;) Honestly, I think most times you're body will tell you when it's had enough... If you continue to push it past that point, you'll be in a world of hurt (alcohol poisoning, anyone? Not fun). If ya do it one or twice, that's one thing... if you do it regularly... Yeah, well...

And you, as ccoa said, are responsible for you.... Remember that....

21? Have fun... if you're friends are taking care of you, enjoy it.... Beware of weird pics that might pop up later on, though. ;)

Nothing really good can come out of drinking. When you drink you feel good for a little while, but after that you feel worse then how you started before you drank. Alcohol is a depressant, which means it makes you more depressed. Alcohol is really just a drink, but it doesn't help you at all. To much can kill brain cells, and the effects of it are numerous. Your liver pays for it, and to much, will equal liver failure. Which means your dead. Alcohol is essentially a poison of sorts. It effects judgment, reaction time, and makes people violent. I personally don't see why people get themselves hammered. You're not doing anyone a favor. But then people just do it to have a good time, right? When you puke yourself sick, then it's not fun anymore. People are stupid sometimes. If you know the effects of something are bad, why the hell do you do it? The feeling will last up to the point where you do lose control and do something you regret.

Erm no, alcohol is a depressant, which means that it slows you down. Being depressed, extratic, angry etc have nothing to do with it being a depressant. If I get drunk four times say, and throw up once (and I ususally wouldn't that often), the it's still totally worth it.

Sorry, it was late at night and I misinterpreted the meaning. [sarcasm]And of course it's still worth it. When your puking your brains and your body is screaming at you, who the hell cares? You had a good time.[/sarcasm]

Yup. Just because stupid people are short sighted, it doesn't mean that never enjoying yourself because it will have some kind of negative consequence is clever.
