Welcome to HBGames, a leading amateur game development forum and Discord server. All are welcome, and amongst our ranks you will find experts in their field from all aspects of video game design and development.

What would you like from HBGames?

It's no secret that the site has died this year. What we do get is players, and even some really poor game pages have 300+ downloads. So the site still has a purpose, in getting new players for your games and promoting them, which I am happy to do.

My question to you is:

  • What would get you interacting with the site more, if at all?
  • What purpose/benefits would you like to gain from the site that we are not currently providing?
  • How can we better serve you?

As one of the few people who does interact with a certain number of threads, mostly ones that relate to my various hobbies- I'm not sure how to answer. The threads are there, it's just that very few people interact with them.

This often happens when a discord exists. But to be fair, the site was dead before we had that. if anything, the discord helped bring back some missed members and finally expelled easily one of the most obnoxious members we knew. The one that made even me look good by compare!

I think Forums are just a dying breed. If you think this forum is dead, you should see the barren spectacle of cadavers thats is the rpgmakercentral forum. Even RpgmakerWebs size is rapidly decreasing as people flock to discords. As I discovered, there's no better way to kill a sights prosperity than to make a discord for it. This applies to forums that are prospering, ours hasn't since 2009. So far us, a Discord server ended up being more to our benefit than not.

There's also the fact that a lot of the people who use to be actives have much less time for the site than they use to. I recall NathanielW and Xileflan were regulars once upon a time. Even Coyote has become more busy as his obligations stack up.

Nathaniel finished his game so he'll probs be busy on the next big project for a while. Xileflan works on Minecraft now, among all the regulars past, I'm the only one who has more or less fully escaped responsibility. I just make games, I never really stop. Even in times such as these, I'm thinking about games to make every minute I'm awake and asleep!

Oh, speaking of "these such times"! Do remember this is the time of year where a lot of people are hanging with their families and all that funny nonsense mortals tend to do! I myself am taking a break, after the hectic workload I took three months to get through most of, I kinda need it.

Welp, there's my two cents, lengthy as it is! Not sure it'll help but it's all I feel I can really answer with!

Accepting it is dead and will be dead, are there any benefits we could give you/people from the site, other than a funnel for game downloads (that nobody is leaping on-)? Is there anything we could be providing here that you think "oh, I could do with that"?

We have things like the Videos channel, which I could make more prominent, to get video views. Looking briefly one of Xhukari's videos has 7,666 views from us, and Muffle's let's plays get a couple of thousand views too. Hell even this game making video got over 2,000:

Videos, I have added view count to them, and I have made a Latest Videos widget to replace what was just a banner linking to videos and podcasts on the homepage.

Could be cleaned up somewhat.

The problem is I know I have a good chance of my video getting seen and commented on in the whatchu' workin on thread in compare to that. It might come down to having to choose between the forum or the games/resource interface, with the discord replacing all social activity. The problems that lie with this approach are many and catastrophic though.

So much of the scripts made in the XP era have already been lost due to so many of the websites that held them falling into oblivion. The best way to move forward would probably be to either archive all the scripts to be put on the resources area in an aim to eventually reduce the forum to rubble, but this has its own risk. The forum itself generates a lot of revenue and views. Even my personal art thread has over 2k views. That doesn't begin to speak of threads like Sketch Thread or Whatchu workin' on that have upwards of 100k views.

I've had a blast of a time here. Even if the forums were to truly die, we'd still have the discord.

Edit: Holy ninjaposting, batman!

I'll give it a shot. It's not like I'm short on videos or content to share.
