RMXP -All Four Text Lines (Patch)

I made a patch for the RMXP editor. (RPGXP.exe, in the Program Files/Enterbrain/RPGXP directory.) This patch allows use of all 4 lines of text.

I'm not sure why this feature got lost in translation, but IMO the textboxes look a bit weird with only three lines of text in them, when they were designed for four.

This patch does NOT break the encryption/compression on the original file, nor does the posted file contain any Enterbrain code, compiled or otherwise. It simply contains a piece of my code, in a patch form which can be applied to your own editor if you so desire.

I am not a lawyer, and will not attempt to decypher how this fits with your EULA with Enterbrain. You use this patch at your own risk. That said, I do believe Enterbrain intended for us to use four lines of text. The default scripts are evidence to support this.

I will repeat myself for the sake of clarity: this does not damage/remove any part of the copy protection/compression of the original file, nor does it contain in any part the original file, and I am not responsible for your usage of this file, as related to damages or legal liability.

Here you will find Lunar IPS, my favorite patch handling utility, about as lightweight as you can get: http://fusoya.eludevisibility.org/lips/

Here you will find the patch itself: http://www.mediafire.com/?zvxci4w02ia

I know the buttons are slightly uneven. And the box looks as though it could fit 5 lines. Still, it works as it should, and [IMO] solves a common problem with my favorite RM* of all time.

Here is an alternative patch: http://www.mediafire.com/?ykjzyztynn1
This one doubles the width of the text box (and straightens out those buttons!) soas to allow you to enter much more text with a smaller font, or use long and complex codes with CMS's. The original end of line length is marked for you. I would add a face length marker as well- do the majority use 96x96 px faces?

Only use ONE of the TWO patches.

Oh, and common sense, but back up the original first, just in case. Lunar IPS won't do that for you.

[Edit: I'm not sure as to the best category for this. I chose this because it seemed most suitable. If a moderator/administrator feels this would be better suited to another category, please move it.]

Thank you Theory, your a life saver...
Not being able to use that fourth line was really inconvenient.
Only three lines made ingame text really uncomfortable...
Thanks again.

There is a slight easter egg in there :) Doesn't affect the program at all. It's just a status bar message for a certain item. I couldn't help myself.

Glad to hear it works, and at least someone found it useful. Thanks for the nice comments guys.

Silver Wind, yes that what you do. And from then on it will let you type the fourth line, you dont have to do anything else.

Theory, whats this easter egg? I couldnt find it... Not that I looked to hard.

You'll just have to look for it. I want to see how long it takes for someone to notice [as that's kind of the point of this particular easter egg.]

Awesome Bro

Well I must say theory, this is pretty fucking amazing, it's something we've all wanted but Enterbrain are retarded and didn't know how to implement it themselves, bravo indeed.

I wanna' know what the easter egg is ! (Goes and looks)

:O awesome

question:
a long while ago I had putzed around with a decrypted version of RMXP, and made the message window way wider, so I could fit in complicated message codes. I also did this with the option conditions window. it was -so- much easier to use. i can get around the second shortcoming easily enough with code, but the 1st problem still stands. after i got the english version, i lost the decrypted exe so now i'm stuck again with the crummy twerpy little message boxes.

since you've provided this, would it be possible for you to add onto this by making the message window wider--perhaps wide enough to fit 100-150 characters per line?

if not it's cool, i'm just curious, since i can't figure out how to decrypt this darn exe myself. (i mean no I'm not trying to break the EULA <_<)...

That's definately a valid point. I need to redo the box to fix the button alignment anyway (looks normal in the editor o.O ) besides, I can do this without damaging the encryption, so it's probably best to let me handle it.
I'll see if I can align the marker to the in game EOL, and I want to add a marker for face support as well. If anyone else has bugs to report, or other requests, I will consider them UNDER THE CONDITION that they in no way jeapordize the rights and/or ability of Enterbrain's product security. Things handling anything regarding trial limitations or lisence-related ANYTHING will be refused, please do NOT make any such requests here, the patch is controversial enough as is but serves a solid and HONEST purpose.

I'll have your request in a seperate patch later today, Ven. Anything for you ;)

Edit: A hint on the easter egg, it's a status bar message. Look to the main toolbar for further clues.

Edit 2: First request, a button for batch text input (usually only accessible by pressing CTRL+N in the event editor...) I will try.

First request, a button for batch text input (usually only accessible by pressing CTRL+N in the event editor...) I will try.
Batch Text Input can be accessed simply by right clicking and selecting 'Batch Text Entry', so there really isn't need for a mod to that purpose.

Ah. I knew I'd seen it somewhere. Thanks for saving me the effort.
I feel so retarded sometimes. Just like I didn't know there was an immortal option for enemies until recently.
