Recommend me a game

I have a GBC, GBA, and a DSi. If I were to buy any pokemon game, which should it be? One that I would be able to reasonably find.

My favourite gen is gen 1, my favourite legendary is Suicune though and I liked the orange islands in the show (minus the shitty new guy).

The ones you should play, in my honest opinion, are Red, Silver, Diamond and SS. Of course any of these can be changed for their counterparts, but they're the ones I enjoyed most.

You really should play red/yellow and silver to get in the "pokemon vibe". Also platinum, because that was a cool game, as it was diamond and pearl combined, and an added "world" which was pretty interesting. And soul silver is definately a game you want to play; even though it is a remake of silver, there are a lot of added features that are really enjoyable (the pokeathlon, the pokemon following you)

I think the 3rd generation of pokemon (ruby, sapphire, emerald) were the least impressive, and i get bored with them a lot quicker. (I also don't really dig the graphics style and music; but that's me)

Yeah, LeafGreen and FireRed weren't that great in my opinion, but the HG/SS ones were super, seeing as i'm still playing SS until I get Pokemon White

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald get put down a lot but I'm going to be completely honest and say that's my second favourite generation. I love everything about it - the graphics, the music, the Pokemon, the world, everything. I don't get the hate R/S/E get because I've beaten it four times now and it's still just as good.

A lot of people will recommend HG/SS and they work great as remakes but to be brutally honest they're not all that great, and the sole reason behind this is that Silver and Gold are not that great either. I mean, yeah NOSTALGIA and stuff, and I still get goosebumps when I hear Silver trainer battle music, but when you pick it apart and look at design it's easily the weakest generation of the series so far. Progression is horribly broken and there's just a lot of things that are wrong with it we ignored because we were kids and didn't care. HG/SS would not have been so popular if they weren't remakes. (the Pokewalker is supercool though!)

If you're gonna get one go with Black/White obviously but I honestly still think the funnest games were R/S/E. Maybe it was just because they took such a huge leap with the graphics and added all sorts of weather effects, volcanoes, made it more cinematic, etc. that it blew me away but I have very fond memories of this game. My only gripes about them are a relative lack of endgame content and the final quarter of the game involves waaay too many sea routes.

They're pretty dated by now and they're probably going to make remakes in a few years anyway though so vOv

In my opinion, the only good pokemon games were R/B/Y and S/G/C. After that their ideas for new Pokemon started getting really lame. The first generation was cool because it introducd the whole gameplay and everything. The second generation was cool because it was basically the same gameplay as the first plus a few things that make life easier (seperate pockets for different types of items, better pokemon daycare)

I agree with dev Ruby/Sapphire are like my second favorite generation ever even better than Johto region. The progression is nice and it brings a lot to the table.
And the pokemon are neat beyond belief i seriously think i like more from gen three then i do from red/blue but those are just opinions.

Black White is neat so far because there are only new pokemon.

Pokemon Pearl and diamond are neat too because like i really liked some of the pokemon i mean they werent the best designed but at the same time they weren't terrible either. Basically, there were no really bad pokemon but no really superb pokemon either. They were safe and consistent.

Also, if you are going to get Ruby/Sapphire to save some money, don't bother. At my gamestop, ruby and sapphire are both $30 a pop, $10 less than pokemon black/white. I also agree with macon about pearl and diamond. It was just pretty bland for me, I couldn't make myself play it to the end. Also theres this whole thing called "new features" that black and white have for online play that I really don't understand why you wouldn't get it if you are even remotely interested in pokemon.

Awesome Bro

If you're into shiny hunting, Diamond/Pearl added this new thing called PokeRadar that makes catch shiny pokes easier and more talent-based. A feature they unfortunately chose to leave out in Black/White.

Pokémon doesn't have much of a storyline though. Red/Blue was the best version at it's time, but of course it's really outdated now. Soul Silver is the best version now imo. It has all the great pokémons and the game is also much bigger because there are 2 regions and 16 badges to collect.

I also started playing Pokémon Black a few days ago. So far i'm liking it a lot. It's definitly better than Pearl/diamond. That was the only generation that i stopped playing after about 5 badges.

Oh, that kindof sucks. That's one of the things I liked about VDex was other than required HMs (which you buy), you can go anywhere pretty much at any time.

I don't think there has ever been a pokemon game where you could choose where to go until endgame. Of course, there are also side routes and such that you can go explore, or can't get to until you until you get certain HMs. Also, you kind of get freedom at the Elite Four, which is new (you can face them in any order you choose).
