MINECRAFT!

I'm not sure if we already have one but I thought I'd make a thread for it anyway.

POST ANYTHING RELATED TO MINECRAFT HERE!

My own things:
So I play mostly on my brothers friends server. We have allocated plots where we can build things.
I kept dying when going back to spawn so I thought I'd build a pathway home.

What technique did you use to keep zombies away from the doors?

For my next builds I'm going to try the split fence technique, I haven't done much with mob proofing and keeping things pretty so it would be an interesting build

Oh, zombies can still come to the door, but because of how I've layed everything out, mobs tend to only come to the door if they're following me. Else the only place they go is in that one garden area.
In terms of doors, my friend made a few good designs here:

None of them are 100% perfect. But they are pretty mob proof.

I just want to say, I started a new Mining technique and in 2 days I've got 53 diamonds, 8 gold blocks + 8 ingots and 23 iron blocks + 7 ingots, it's basically branch mining and it gets you set up pretty darn quickly

I've used branch mining for quite a while. Such an improvement over just caving and hoping for a lucky find. Too bad that it's kind of a monotonous process and tends to put a damper on the whole exploratory aspect of the game.

I agree with Spooky.
While branch mining is useful and productive. It takes away an aspect of fun exploration.
That being said. I may have to start branching soon due to lack of resources.

My friend found a mesa biome the other day and decided to build a long shaft to it. The biome is over 8000 blocks away and it spent them a few (real) days to mine the entire way there.
He was complaining about how many resources he had to mine out and I was sat here like "I haven't even found a diamond yet. I haven't even found redstone yet!"

I also started working on potions and during my adventures in the nether, I came across this:
1oF4Dq7.png
It was just floating there blinking on and off. It was weird.

minecraft is oodles of fun. Like, soul-sucking-'it's 4AM and why am i still awake' fun. I can't for the life of me play it un-modded, though. My friend's server got unexpectedly wiped a little while back but I had this screenshot lying around. I think it had Biome's o' Plenty and Mo's Creatures. those two are pretty ace.

Aha, it's funny you say that cause it's 5am and I have work soon -___-'
I'm different to you in the fact that a while back I played it modded with a load of friends on a friends modded server and I just couldn't enjoy it as much as vanilla.
That being said. Is that a dragon in your screenshot? I could totally dig dragons!

The earlier conversation about branch mining made me realize how much I needed to do it, so I begun
There are about 16 branches in all, I'm not too sure. Either way about 6 of them run into this one cave which is slightly annoying, but I'll most likely wall that bitch up!

In all, I got a good haul. Mostly redstone, coal and iron however I did stumble across some Diamond and Lapis which is pretty great! Especially considering the new update!
Anyway. I'll most likely be on it again tomorrow.

Potion, what's the Y your digging at (5-16 has most diamonds)? Keeping your head at 15 (feet at 14) will result the most resources (diamond & redstone). If you do some enchanting you might want to try 'n get fortune. Possible 4 diamonds out of one ore, and don't let me get started about the 12 redstone dust per ore.

Personally i prefer 2x1 or 3x1 branch mining with a 2 gap between each branch. That way i maximize the amount of blocks seen without much dura / time loss.

But mostly I'm playing adventure maps atm, or messing around with redstone circuits. Piston doors :D

I find that Y=12 is the best for me, it's just above lava level and you still knock into diamonds every 4 minutes, I also do 2x1 with a 2 gap between each branch, I also do it with this rule:

Dig down to Y=12, make a 9x9 room.
Dig to the north first, outward 8 blocks.
Dig 8 blocks to the left and right, mining every ore you can visibly see (Yes, even mine coal, I find diamonds under coal very often).
Return to the stem, dig forward 3 blocks (Leaving a 2x2 gap) and repeat 8 blocks left and right.
After 8 branches have been made, return to the 9x9 room, deposite resources, then move clockwise and do the next branch.
After all branches are exhausted, go down your most profitable branch (Cover the entrances to the other branchs), block off the branches to prevent mobs, then at the end of the branch make a new 9x9 room and repeat the process.

When your most profitable branch leads you back to an older branch, your mine is exhausted :(
I don't know what to do after that, consider opening up a random other branch?

I find that following the most profitable branches, for some weird reason, gets me the most diamonds.

I also built a redstone silo to store all my cobble, it has 8 double chests and 8 hoppers worth of storage and has comparators that light up lamps on the side to show how full it is (1 double chest + 1 hopper = 1 lamp lit).

It's a wyvern. Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure it's part of Mo's Creatures. I loved it to bits because unlike the legendary pegasus mount thing in the mod, wyverns aren't tough to just spawn via creative where as the horses required some extremely contrived grindy breeding system that I could not wrap my head around at all.

Most of the mods I like are pretty subtle! I can't really get into huge game changing mods like the Tekkit package or Equivalent Exchange or things like that. Biomes O' Plenty is my only must-have mod because it makes exploration a bit more fun- There's a lot more to discover and new building materials to play with.

Though, I gotta say, I'm really digging some of the new stuff in 1.7 and 1.8, like the new rock types and colored glass and savannas!

Y'see my mining structure isn't exactly as structured as your is.
It's essentially:
Go down to Y: 12
Dig out a few 2x2 branches leaving another 2x2 space inbetween.
dig.
If there is diamond I will mine that out as soon as I can, same with redstone however things like iron and coal I tend to leave until I need them. I tend to remember where it all is anyway.

Ah. Fair enough.
Maybe that's why I didn't like the mods. My friends used to play with tekkit and equivalent exchange. They did also have biomes o'plenty and a few other things like that.
It annoyed me because they would just set up huge rigs and it would mine giant ass holes in the ground.
I dunno. I wouldn't mind trying a few mods like I think yogscast are working on some sort of space travel one or something. I think that would be pretty cool.

My favourite one is Simon :)

I'm playing on the crafted movie server right now and I'm at the stage where I'm trading my mining finds for the lower base resources like crops! So I relied on buying food from others while I mined, so I don't consider branch mining ASAP to be beneficial if you are going solo.

My friend is in a small clan that has a server with an MMO mod, which is pretty cool! Your skills level up (i.e. mining, farming, etc.) and you get a special skill that improves with each level. You can also repair tools, which is one of my favorite additions it has! I started making an abode in a hill. I've done some random stuff like make a small farm and plant a tree that sticks out through the hill. xD

I also was working on a staircase tonight. >_>

I'm sort of curious. Which MMO mod is it? If you're not sure, can you list the exact names for any of the skills? If they're Mining, Excavation, Herbalism, Woodcutting, Axes, Swords, Archery, Unarmed, and Repair (plus one or two others), it's likely to be mcMMO.

It's this one. :3
