Issue 18 - April 2014

I apologise heartily for this issue, it's not great. Have been ill twice this month, family issues, etc; and there hasn't been much to cover... you can probably tell that it was meant to be released yesterday, but I missed the deadline. So yeah, feel free to hurl shoes.

Also god knows what "politican" was supposed to say. I'm tired, sue me.

Woohoo! Im mentioned in it! I feel so special now, of course, that project was a LOT of work...

I hope you feel better for the sake of feeling better, not so you can "get back to work".

I was rather surprised that my mouse script was mentioned in there. I mean, sure, it's had some hard work put into it. But I've only ever really seen one thing that uses it, despite its rather absurd amount of usability.

I havent read through all the issues since Im kinda new here and frankly didnt know there was a form of a Magazine!

Are there any articles that discuss Character Development? It seems to me that many peoples games lack some of the most basic things in regards to creating characters. Things that arent done in Script or Setup but the way that stories are told. And sure, there are exceptions to every rule, but basic rules...

Characters need to Grow. Not just by stats, but in story where they have something to overcome.

Characters have Relationships. Every character will have another character with other characters, and every character needs their own relationship with the Player.

Another potential article (not sure if it exists) is how to tell a story without Players losing interest. Its a hard thing to do, balancing a dynamic detailed character and boring a Player. For me, its one of those things that relies heavily on Animations. Even simple Animations can convey an extremely wide range of emotions. 90% of human communication is Non Verbal.

I have a background in both Film and Broadcast. There are similarities between both Non Interactive Media and Interactive Media in regards of storytelling. I just think that many people arent really aware of things that make stories really good, and stories are the reason there is even a niche for RPG games in the first place.

Just a couple suggestions for the next issue...

I like the part where my article was put in there despite it not being finalised, I was going to use a different font and change the background colour, but communications weren't exactly the greatest, lol.

Indeed.

Oh well, no biggie, atleast you got an extra article, lol.

If you want me to write any more, just say the word, can even give me a topic to talk about if you like, lol.
