Welcome to HBGames, a leading amateur game development forum and Discord server. All are welcome, and amongst our ranks you will find experts in their field from all aspects of video game design and development.

Can we require manual approval of new users?

We get like one legitimate new user every six months or so. Everyone else comes in here to spam. I think at least 75% of new posts on the forum are spam.

Would that actually stop the spammers though? Feel that would harm the genuine new users more. I recall something broke with the site, so Ellie turned that off to fix an issue... but that opened the floodgates to the spammers. Think it was the email verification or something.

Done.

Can we fix that dumbshit thing where images now resize themselves to be even larger?

It's a nightmare to look at posts in the screenshot thread now which previously were within the limits, from having 1440 pixels of room at the very least we now have less than a thousand?

Somebody fucked up big time.

On further inspection, that seems to be a problem relating to imgur.

Other fixes? How about the multiple timelines crap where i can edit a post and its edits from before have no inclusion, or that i have to refresh a page to see changes made, and even more work just to get something to where it should be?

This forum has some severe post-saving issues.

Further, all the issues regarding image sizes could be fixed by implementing auto-resize to fit page, you know, that baseline forum functionality that was in most forums a decade ago?

Congratulations on finally stopping those bots HBG. Only took 3.8 years for a somewhat adequate solution. Better late than never. Let's just be thankful they spammed Nike, wood flooring, and clothes instead of something VERY illegal....

Real shame, some of those bots are hogging up some real good account names. Too bad they can't be outright obliterated on sight.

I miss the good old days of ads for viagra and budget-pornhub sites for beta-male cucks who couldn't stand all the lovely and very cultured femdom kinks rampant on pornhub.

But yeah rpgmaker forums are unpopular with advertisers due to their previous stance of
if i dont get absolutely everything i fucking want ever for free im going to create some very big fucking problems for us all! kthxbye
circa the days before degica came along and did a 180 on that shit which i honestly despise more and is why i'm here on this dead-horse forum and not somewhere more populated because the only populated rpgm sites now are populated by the misgiven harem of some wagecucks who could only land a decent job in rpgmaker marketing which is honestly more shameful than having no job at all because at least the unemployed still have a soul to sell when they reach that lovely place called hell.

I'm sure in another 3.8 years I'll remember why I banned you lol.
Sassy, I love it! i don't even know if that was directed at me or Hybrida but damn that was a good burn.

I vanished from this site for fiv e years so for all i know i could have been banned for a decent period of time and had absolutely no knowledge of it LMAO.

Nah I like you Bizz. You're humongously productive and 2qt2boot.

I haven't noticed this on my end, so can't work to fix it, however if I find it happening I'll try and do something.

Again I've never come across this issue so assume it is something on your end.

If you have to refresh it seems like it's a caching issue. I hate caches.

I mean this is a decades-old forum.

I would work on it - I could make an amazing site, believe me, the best site, I'm the best admin ever, everyone knows it, the best - but the truth is forums are dead. This isn't the future.

It pains me to say it, but we are riding the wrong wave. Discord is where it is at. Discord is where ALL of the RPG Maker activity outside of RMWeb goes. Games themselves go on Steam.

If I was to redesign HBGames in any real meaningful way, it would be to turn it into a hub for the Discord server. Maybe something that pulls various things from the server if you can do that.

I get NO comments on my thread at RMweb - and my game is the sort of game that ten years ago would have had a huge following... I do however get dozens of visitors to my Discord channel and have got far better feedback than I ever have on RMweb.

I'm sure you'd agree that your game threads, while amazing, don't get the feedback they deserve here...

Anyway.

The harsh facts:

- This forum is 16 years old
- Its glory period was 2007 and has been "dying" ever since
- It is now in that post-forum stage where really it is just a meeting point for old friends (and that's OK)
- The only thing keeping it alive is myself, and I have a full time job and rarely have time to work on my own game
- Discord is just so much more functional than this place will ever be

I wish I could fix HBGams and I wish I could give you the answers you want because I have an overwhelming attachment to this place. And I'll never let it die. But it is already dead.

This is one of the few places I visit daily, really. Sometimes multiple, just to check up on it. Shame it isn't so alive these days. Does make me wonder what some of the oldguard is doing these days though.

I've added a feed to the Discord that alerts us to new posts here, which should make it easier to track (given we're so quiet anyway). Will see how it goes.

Thank you Ellie. I'll try not to spam non-sense too much. Sometimes it stays quiet for hours :(

Aww thanks! Now I feel bad for being as ... abrupt-- as i was about this stuff. A lot of these issues could be my adblocker/noscript combo... it's probably noscript i keep forgetting i have it.

I'm fine with going the discord wave with all of you, this is the only rpgmaker forum i still post on. The rest are either dead, non-existent or owned by those chucklefucks who hate my guts, lel.

There are huge issues with caching, I just cannot for the life of me work out why or how to solve it. If anyone with more experience knows that'd be great...

What I do want to do immediately is fix / redesign the homepage. I can't promise functionality, but it needs some work.
if there's anything i can do to help out that you're comfortable with, let me know!
